Zhengshan Xiaozhong Black Tea – Lapsang Souchong Original

Zhengshan Xiaozhong is the most authentic and refined expression of Lapsang Souchong, the red tea originally from the Tongmuguan mountains in Wuyishan , Fujian province.

Unlike heavily smoked Western versions, this tea was created to enhance the natural elegance of the leaf: the smokiness is a light accent, never too dominant or invasive.

In the cup it reveals an extraordinary harmony between sweetness, roundness and aromatic depth, offering a sophisticated and surprisingly delicate experience.

Zhengshan Xiaozhong is considered the first red tea (black tea in the West) in history, the origin from which modern Lapsang Souchong was born.

Produced exclusively in the Tongmuguan protected area, it uses mature Camellia Sinensis leaves processed according to traditional methods handed down for centuries.

This version represents the purest face of this tea: an elegant, naturally sweet beverage that tells the story of Fujian's culture before its smokiness became its most known characteristic.

In-depth look at the cultivation area

This Zhengshan Xiaozhong originates in the heart of Tongmuguan, from ancient trees cultivated for generations by the same family.

Wu Chongfa and his wife Chen Chunfeng care for these rare plants, which grow spontaneously among forests and rivers, in the historically protected territory of Wuyishan.

No new trees are planted here: the law protects these plants as natural heritage. Every harvest is therefore limited and precious.

The leaves are harvested only once a year, in spring, and processed by hand in ancient wooden drying rooms, where air and time do their work without force.

This is why authentic Zhengshan Xiaozhong is not a common tea: it is the expression of a territory that cannot be replicated.

  • aroma: fine and complex, with notes of honey, ripe fruit, warm bread, and a slight woody hint.
  • taste: soft, round, with a natural sweetness and a long, velvety persistence.
  • leaf appearance: dark, whole, and well-processed leaves, indicative of careful selection and artisanal craftsmanship.
  • profile: elegant and refined, far from the aggressiveness of heavily smoked Lapsang.
  • processing: traditional, with pine wood smoking or environmentally respectful unsmoked processing.
  • identity: the true "Original Lapsang," in its most cultivated and authentic form.

Western Infusion

  • dosage: 1 g of tea per 100 ml of water.
  • water temperature: 85-90°C.
  • infusion time: 3 minutes.

Zhengshan Xiaozhong is valued not only for its cultural significance but also for its natural properties.

Like all quality black teas, it is rich in antioxidants, aids digestion, and contributes to overall well-being. Its smooth structure makes it ideal both as a tea for slow meditation and tasting, and as an elegant accompaniment to cuisine, where it can enhance refined dishes without ever being overpowering.
