Oolong Tea

Oolong tea is known as a semi-fermented tea . Like green tea and black tea , the leaves that will be infused and make up Oolong tea are obtained from Camellia Sinensis . This plant, in the wild, can reach up to two meters in height. In tea plantations, however, it is kept as a low but well-branched bush.

This variety represents one of the best-known and most prized Chinese teas. Its name “oolong” means black dragon and it differs from other types of tea due to its production process.

Once harvested, the leaves of this type of tea are dried in the sun to reduce moisture. They are then transferred to bamboo baskets and stirred by hand or using special machinery. This stirring gives the leaves their characteristic dark color along the edges and the jagged shape typical of this tea.

Oolong tea undergoes a further withering stage to achieve the desired oxidation and, finally, the leaves are rolled in different ways that vary depending on the variety being produced.
